I am Libby Nairn, and my  floristry studio and cutting garden is situated on the hillside overlooking Lochbroom and Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands. For a long time, I thought my work was about flowers. But the longer I spend growing and designing in the Highlands, the more I realise that flowers are only part of the story.

I believe flowers can tell a story of place and season. By choosing locally grown flowers, you can embrace  a more planet-friendly alternative to commercially imported blooms. Many British-grown flowers are delicately  fragrant. Perfumes that are often lost when flowers are bred for shipping long distances.

Working with flowers and foliage grown as locally as possible inspires my creativity and allows me to create designs that reflect the beauty of the season. Every arrangement is shaped by what nature is offering at that moment, making your flowers truly unique.

ABOUT OUR GARDEN: Inner_about

Growing the flowers that I use in my creative practice informs the way I use them in my designs. Nurturing each stem gives me a familiarity with how they move in their natural environment. This natural movement becomes a central element that brings a unique style to every design. The ephemeral quality of fresh natural materials shifts through the seasons. Each bouquet, each installation is a complete snapshot of a moment in time.

Living and growing flowers in the Highlands means working alongside the landscape rather than trying to control it. The changing seasons, the shifting light, the colours of the hills, weathered stone and the coastline are the backdrop to each design.

I love to create timeless designs that  appear to have grown in their place, complementing an already dramatic backdrop. Designs that nestle into their surroundings, enhancing the atmosphere and elevating a celebration that already feels deeply connected to its setting.

Whether I am creating flowers for a windswept coastal elopement, an intimate gathering beneath ancient trees or a celebration in a Highland estate, my aim is always to design flowers that feel as though they were always meant to be there.
